About:

Mike Young, using the persona, "Milton Moai," when serving as bandleader and bartender of Mr. Moai & The Tikiheads, is a passionate musician and the creative force behind the exotica/neo-lounge solo project, Mr. Moai & The Tikiheads. Hailing from Milwaukee, WI, and now residing in Huntersville, NC, Mike's musical journey began at the young age of 10 when he first picked up the drums and later taught himself to play guitar. Throughout the 1980s, he honed his skills by playing in a popular cover band, immersing himself in the vibrant music scene of Milwaukee, and playing songs by artists such as Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Marshall Crenshaw, ZZ Top and other musical icons of the 70's and 80's.

However, life took an unexpected turn for Mike as he decided to take a break from music and joined the Marines, dedicating himself to serving his country. Stationed in Hawaii during his military service, Mike discovered the rich Polynesian culture and the enchanting world of tiki. This encounter ignited his fascination with the exotic, transporting him to a realm of tropical aesthetics and sonic landscapes.

After retiring from the daily grind, Mike reignited his passion for music, returning to recording and producing his own captivating compositions focused around the tiki lifestyle. Drawing inspiration from his time in Hawaii and his deep appreciation for exotica, lounge and surf rock, he embarked on a new artistic endeavor—Mr. Moai & The Tikiheads.

Under the alias Milton Moai, Mike crafts mesmerizing melodies and meticulously fuses the genres of exotica, neo-lounge and surf rock. The result is a unique sonic experience that captures the spirit of adventure and evokes the mystical allure of tropical islands. Through his music, Mike takes listeners on a journey to a place where the surf crashes against the shores, and the enchanting sounds of tiki whisk them away to faraway lands.

Mike's debut album, "Surfotica," was release on June 14, 2023, and showcases his mastery in blending the infectious energy of surf rock with the atmospheric allure of exotica. It is a testament to his deep connection with Polynesian culture and his unwavering dedication to creating immersive musical experiences.

Mike has recently had the honor working with other tiki music artists, such as Kane Manakoora of The Manakooras, Mark Riddle (a.k.a. Marty Lush, Tikiyaki Orchestra, Alika Lyman Group and Voodoo 5) and Darren Long of The Tiki Delights. Mike also recently joined the world renowned surf band, The Aqualads, as their bass guitar player.

Mike's music is currently available on all major streaming music platforms, allowing fans and enthusiasts exotica, lounge and surf or "tiki music" to immerse themselves in the mesmerizing world of Mr. Moai & The Tikiheads.
